Jeffreys Bay & Surf Heritage

Full Day · PrivateFrom R 2,200 ppMax 40 Guests

The world's most perfect wave, and the culture it created

Jeffreys Bay is one of the most famous surf destinations on the planet. The long right-hand point break at Supertubes is considered by many surfers to be the finest wave in the world — fast, hollow, and seemingly endless. But J-Bay, as it's known, is far more than a surf spot. It's a town shaped entirely by the ocean, with a culture, a food scene, and a pace of life that feel genuinely unlike anywhere else in South Africa.

Just over two hours from Port Elizabeth, this full-day journey takes you into the heart of surf heritage — the Surf Museum, the famous break at Supertubes, the art and design studios that have grown up around the surfing community, and the pristine beaches that stretch south toward the Kabeljous Nature Reserve. Whether you surf or not, J-Bay is one of those places that gets under your skin.

Highlights

Your Day

07:00 — Departure
Leave Port Elizabeth as the morning light opens up. The drive south along the N2 is beautiful — Indian Ocean visible through the dunes, the Tsitsikamma mountains to the west. Coffee and rusks on the road.
09:00 — Supertubes
Arrive at the most famous surf break in the Southern Hemisphere. Even from the beach, a clean day at Supertubes is an extraordinary thing to watch — long walls of water peeling perfectly for hundreds of metres. Honey explains what makes this stretch of coastline so exceptional.
10:30 — Surf Museum & Culture
The Jeffreys Bay Surf Museum traces the history of surfing in South Africa — from the 1960s pioneers to the modern tour. Boards, photos, and stories that capture how this small town became a global destination.
12:30 — Lunch
Fresh seafood at a restaurant on the beachfront — linefish, calamari, prawns. The kind of meal that's best eaten at a table with the sound of surf in the background.
14:00 — Shell Museum & Beach Walk
J-Bay's Shell Museum holds one of the most comprehensive shell collections in Africa — extraordinary in scope and beauty. Then a walk along the beach toward Kabeljous, watching for bottlenose dolphins that frequently work the surf line.
16:30 — Return
Leisurely drive back to Port Elizabeth as the afternoon light turns the dunes gold. Optional stop at Humansdorp for a coffee, or extend into evening if the surf conditions are exceptional.
